Upon entering our office, our receptionist will welcome you. We suggest that you download and complete our patient forms located in the New Patient Center and, of course, bring those with you. This paperwork provides us with your health history and information on your condition. It is also recommended that you bring any reports of diagnostic studies (X-Ray, MRI, CAT Scans, etc.) related to your problem area.
Next, you will have a consultation with Dr. Ted Johnson to discuss the reason for your visit as well as other health-related problems and concerns that may be having an impact on your condition. This initial visit is designed for Dr. Ted Johnson to learn more about you, your condition, and expectations to determine how chiropractic care can meet your goals.
After your consultation, Dr. Ted Johnson will perform a complete chiropractic examination on the problem areas discussed during the consultation. A special focus during this examination will be on joint mobility and flexibility as well as the condition of the muscles in the area of examination.
Whether or not X-Rays or other diagnostic tests are required depends on your specific condition, the history of it's development and the results of the examination. In the majority of cases, X-Rays are not required to begin treatment. If they are, Dr. Johnson will explain why and have you go to the X-Ray facility of your choice.
Report of Findings
Dr. Ted Johnson will use the information gained from the paperwork you completed, any diagnostic reports you may have brought in, his discussion with you regarding your condition and the examination to decide whether or not you would benefit from chiropractic care. When appropriate, he may also recommend that you incorporate the care of other professionals (such as massage therapist, physical therapist, your primary care physician or other specialists) to make sure that you are receiving the best possible care.
At the conclusion of this initial appointment, unless other diagnostic tests are needed, you will usually receive your first treatment. Dr. Johnson will explain the different parts of a typical treatment which usually include preliminary stretching with the assistance of a motorized treatment table, work on areas of muscle tightness and tenderness using manual techniques and special instruments as well as the sound and feel of chiropractic adjustments using the Impulse IQ instrument. Most patients appreciate the fact that using the Impulse IQ eliminates the need for what some refer to as the "old fashioned bending, twisting and snap, crackle and popping" type of chiropractic adjustment!
A Word About Treatment Plans: After having been in practice for over 30 years I am still amazed at how differently each patient responds to care. Factors such as age, genetics, history of injuries, general physical condition and weight, level of stress and compliance with prescribed stretches and exercises all influence how each one of us heals. For this reason, I feel that it is important to individualize and adjust a treatment schedule accord to how each patient is progressing.
